Memes What is a meme? A meme is a funny picture or video posted on the internet that goes viral. What qualities does a meme need to be successful? To be successful a meme must be eye catching and funny. Why does a certain meme go viral on the internet?  It will have been funny, eye catching and it will have dealt with a topic that many people like. Does a meme have to have words? I don't think a meme must have words. Just a picture can be funny sometimes. Does a meme have to be a photograph? I don't think a meme must be a photograph. There is a very popular meme form that does not use pictures,  but only text.
